QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is the steam wand on lucca 53 no burn?

The steam wand is not insulated, so you have to hold the wand on the black rubber attachment to avoid touching the hot metal.

  • How difficult is it to use the milk steamer after making a shot of espresso on a 15amp circuit breaker. How much rime lag is between using the 20 Amp versus 15 amp?

Dual boiler machines ideally heat up both boilers at the same time.  However, due to the electrical resistance of the heating elements on this machine (800 and 1250 watts), and the variability of household current (110 - 120 v), equipment manufacturers are required to err on the side of caution for safety reasons.  So a 20 amp circuit solves the problem to avoid any electrical issues.  In 20 amp mode with a 20 amp circuit, your espresso machine will initially heat up both your steam boiler and brew boiler simultaneously.  After each boiler has been sufficiently heated to their set temperature, the espresso machine will provide just enough energy to the boiler that is in need of heating.

In 15 amp mode, the espresso machine will take a little bit longer to heat up initially. In this mode, the coffee boiler takes precedence over the steam boiler. On initial heat up the espresso machine will heat the coffee boiler to full temperature, then heat the steam boiler to full temperature. After that point where both boilers are heated to their set temperature, the espresso machine will provide just enough energy to the boiler that is in need of heating.

So, the steaming of milk on a 15 amp circuit should be no different than on a 20 amp circuit.  The steam boilers in both situations will be at the correct temperature.
For initial heat up, we are talking, maybe, an extra 10 or 15 minutes to fully heat both boilers on the 15 amp circuit.
